For glancing, bigger is better

Posted in Articles

Glancing is taking a quick look at one or two words. Glancing is something we do when we are immersed in another activity. For example, we glance at our smart watch to see the weather. We glance at our GPS to see if our exit is approaching. Glancing is not reading.

There was a recent study done that presented some interesting findings regarding font style and readability in regards to glancing. It’s not a surprise that larger fonts are easier to read, but this study showed that weight and case are equally important. Lowercase and condensed text both take significantly more time to read.

This research is especially important with regards to GPS technology. We all use it. We know that taking our eyes off the road even just for a couple of seconds can be dangerous. Can we increase safety by using larger and easier-to-read fonts? Read more here.
